The fun never stops at Whittier! Take a look at a few pics from yesterday's Student vs. Teacher volleyball game.

And with a blink of an eye, we are already a quarter way through the 2022-2023 school year! The second quarter is here, and it’s a busy one! While this time of year tends to get chaotic, it’s important to remember how crucial student attendance is. Chronic absenteeism is a serious problem in South Dakota - a problem SFSD is committed to improving. Missing just two days a month can hurt a student’s grades and increase their chance of dropping out. Make sure your student is on the path to a bright future – and that starts in the classroom!

WHITTIER STRONG! Congratulations to all our players and coaches on a great 2022 football season.

Guess who's having a BIG birthday!?! Take a look at the attached picture for a glimpse at the past. The Whitter building will be celebrating 100 years of foresight, idealism, and passion that shaped our community and positively impacted the lives of thousands of children. Congratulations Whittier! October 2nd was National Custodian Appreciation Day and Whittier has the best Building Services Staff around. They care for us in ways seen (an unseen) every day of the year. Thanks for all you do!

Excuse us while we brag for a minute… Our Superintendent is pretty talented! Dr. Jane Stavem is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, trumpet player, French horn player, percussionist, xylophone player… oh, and she also plays harmonica! 😉 These talents, along with her deep love for all things Fine Arts, earned her the honor of Parade Marshal for Festival of Bands 2022! We are proud to be lead by someone who values the role extracurriculars play in “preparing each student to succeed in a changing world!”

Updated breakfast and lunch pricing, how to re-apply for free and reduced meals, who gets low fund balance notifications, and an easy and delicious snack mix recipe to try at home. It's all in the October edition of the "What's the Scoop" newsletter from our Child Nutrition Services!

Teamwork makes the dream work here at Whittier! Ms. E and Mr. T are working together today to teach 6th graders how to calculate the surface area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles.

Happy IT Professionals Day to Whittier's Building Computer Specialist - Nathan Stadel (and all the tech staff of the Sioux Falls School District!) Today we celebrate the technical experts — network engineers, system administrators, database admins, ethical hackers, and many more types of I.T. professionals — that make sure our computer systems run smoothly. It takes a solid set of skills and talents to fill the shoes of an I.T. pro. THANK YOU to the people who come to fix our devices when they stop working and the behind-the-scenes operators without whom we’d be back in front of an archaic chalkboard, doing things the hard way.

Whitter is showing their school spirit and having fun with Homecoming Dress-up Days this week! Go Wolverines!

Parenting is hard. So is growing up! Join SFSD and Avera experts as we team up virtually on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm for topics that strengthen families.

Monday, September 12 and Tuesday, September 13 Whittier students will be participating in fall MAP Testing. There are a few things you can do to be sure you come to school ready to do your best: Get plenty of sleep the night before (8 - 10 hours); go to bed by 10 PM. Avoid the morning rush; set out clothes the night before and leave a few minutes early. Eat a healthy breakfast; this means cereal, eggs, fruit, etc., not candy and Cheetos. Finally, make sure to bring your Chromebook and charging cord to school both testing days.

Don't forget to SMILE :)
School Picture Day is Thursday, September 8th and Thursday, October 13th.

Today, the City of Sioux Falls and Sioux Area Metro pulled up at Roosevelt High School to explain the public transit "Kids Ride Free Initiative." As the city works to increase ridership and build future transit users, children can ride SAM buses with a School ID/Freedom Pass.
