A look at our Week at Whittier!

Ms. Simpson's 6th and 7th graders worked hard for 3 days on STEM model building projects!
Each model included an electrical element.
They were putting the foundations of Algebra into practical practice.
1) You can solve hard problems if you take it one step at a time
2) Doing things in the right order is important
3) Show your work so you can trace back mistakes without having to start all over
We are so proud of them! They worked hard and at the end we had working models!

For this Throwback Thursday we have something new! Last week a student discovered an assignment from 1986 lost in a filing cabinet. The assignment seems to be what students would change or add to Sioux Falls. This is especially cool because our 7th grade students do this same assignment every year!
Some highlights from the map include: an artificial lake near Falls Park, a university where Whittier Field now is, and space for a shuttle launch.

A group of our 8th grade girls recently took part in the Women in Science Trip to Southeast Technical Institute!
The students spent the day learning about careers in science, technology, engineering, and math while connecting with women currently working in STEM fields. It was a great opportunity for them to ask questions, explore different career paths, and see what their future opportunities could look like.
